Marcia Steele

June 6, 1923 — January 29, 2014

A celebration of life for Marcia E. Steele, 90 of Wayland will be held Monday, February 3, 2014 at 10:30AM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with Pastor Jason Collier officiating.  Burial will follow at the Crawfordsville Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 2 from 2 – 4 PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington.  A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County, Wayland Fire and Rescue and the United Church of Crawfordsville.  Marcia Steele died Wednesday, January 29 at the McCreedy Home in Washington following a lingering illness.

Marcia Elizabeth Steele was born June 6, 1923 in rural Louisa County, the daughter of Clement and Hazel (McBride) Allen. She graduated from Columbus High School and attained her teaching degree from Iowa Wesleyan College.  On February 27, 1943 she was united in marriage to Harold Steele in Canton, MO.  Marcia taught at the Carson School in rural Louisa County.  She was a member of the Wayland Methodist Church and after the church closed she transferred her membership to the United Church of Crawfordsville.  Marcia enjoyed reading, quilting, shopping, antiques and square dancing.

Survivors include her husband Harold of rural Wayland, IA, two sons; Doug (Carolyn) Steele of Crawfordsville, IA, Brian Steele and fiance' Heather Sharp of Lisbon, IA, five grandchildren; Carmen, Carrie, Cory, Heidi and Derek, four great grandchildren; Emma, Kylee, McKenna and Mason, one sister; Barbara (Howard) Lunning of Crawfordsville, IA, and one brother; Kenton (Ghada) Allen of Bettendorf, IA.

Preceding Marcia in death were her parents, one brother; Mitchell Allen and two sisters; Jean Buser and Phyllis Steele.
