Marnie Simmering

January 6, 1925 — February 27, 2013

A celebration of life for “Marnie” Edna Mae Simmering, 88 of Washington will be held Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 11:00 AM the 1 st Baptist Church in Washington with Pastor Darryl Carr officiating. Her body has been cremated. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM at the church. Marnie died Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Marnie was born January 6, 1925 in Didsbury, Alberta, Canada the daughter of Edward and Inez (Cherry) Kercher. She was united in marriage to Richard Simmering on September 28, 1943 in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She worked in retail management at Montgomery Wards and Goodwill Industries for many years. Marnie was a member of the 1 st Baptist Church in Washington. She enjoyed having coffee with friends, traveling to visit her family, doing word puzzles and celebrating the holidays. She was especially fond of telling stories.

Survivors include; Ted and Deb Simmering of Byron, Illinois, Marnie Simmering of North Carolina, Dorothy Simmering of West Branch, Iowa, Bob and Mary Simmering of Coralville, Iowa, John Simmering of Washington, Iowa, Shelley and Glen Burton of Plano, Texas, Meli and Ian Wilcox of Broomall, Pennsylvannia, 14 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Preceding Marnie in death were her parents, her husband Richard, daughter in law, Jayne Simmering, and one great grandson, Jensen Hoffman.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the 1 st Baptist Church and Paws and More Animal Shelter.
