Martha M. Roth, 94, of Wayland, died Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Washington County Hospital. A celebration of life will be held Friday, August 10, 2018 at 6:00 PM at Wayland Mennonite Church with Pastors Jay Eberly, Ron Roth and Don Lowe officiating. Private family burial will be held on Saturday, August 11. The family will greet friends on Friday, from 4 – 6 PM, at Wayland Mennonite Church. A memorial fund has been established for the Wayland 1st Responders.
Martha Magdalena (Wenger) Roth was born July 30, 1924 in southern Washington County, the daughter of David and Katie (Roth) Wenger. At the age of 12 she gave her life to Christ and was baptized at Sugar Creek Mennonite Church. She graduated from Wayland High School in 1944 and attended college. On September 17, 1944 she was united in marriage to Neal Roth and the couple farmed in the Wayland area all their lives. Martha taught school in a country school for one year and was a charter member of Bethel Mennonite Church, where she taught all ages of Sunday school. She was currently a member of Spirit of Faith Family Church in Cedar Rapids. Martha was a woman of prayer that was praying for her family and friends. She enjoyed farm chores, gardening, birds, flowers, quilting and especially being with her grandchildren.
Survivors include five children and spouses, Bonnie (Al) Yoder of Iowa City, Ron (Char) Roth of LaGrange, IN, Carla (Don) Lowe of Wayland, Tom (Marge) Roth of Mt. Pleasant, Mark (Donna) Roth of Wayland, 14 grandchildren and spouses, Chris (Susan) Yoder, Ben (Christine) Yoder, Troy (Jennifer) Roth, Shannon (Stephanie) Roth, Travis (Kristy) Roth, Todd (Kristy) Lowe, Ryan (Mara) Lowe, Jeremy (Pam) Lowe, Katie (Cory) Steele, Megan Roth, Renea (Neil) Reichenbach, Sarah (Josh) Shank, Traci Roth, Isaac (Denise) Roth, and 23 great grandchildren.
Preceding Martha in death were her parents, her husband Neal on Sept. 6, 2010, two sisters: Elizabeth Sutter and Mary Wyse, and four brothers: Daniel, Orie, Glen and Emery Wenger.
