Mary Ellen Johnson

Mary Ellen (Reed) La Coursiere Johnson, 64, of Washington, died at her home Wednesday, August 24, 2022. A memorial celebration of her life will be held Friday, September 9, 2022, at 2:00 PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. The family will greet friends an hour before the service. Following the service, her cremains will be inurned at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington. A memorial fund has been established for the Lupus Foundation of America.

Mary Ellen was born December 30, 1957, and adopted by Eugene and Marcella (Haupert) Reed. She was united in marriage to Marty Johnson on October 28, 2016. She worked at the University of Iowa Hospital in Medical Insurance Billing. Mary Ellen enjoyed playing the piano, needlepoint, playing cards, dancing, gardening, and cooking. She never knew a stranger and her faith was very important to her. Mary Ellen was a member of the Medical Business Association and the Lupus Foundation of America.

Survivors include her husband Marty Johnson of Washington, IA, her mother Marcella Reed of Washington, IA, two children: Siri Joy (Earl) Nestingen Milton of Minneapolis, MN, Jens (Rebecca) Reed Nestingen of Woodbury, MN, three bonus children: David (Jamie) Johnson of Camby, IN, Ryan Johnson of Washington, IA, Jessica (Robert) Kimbal of Cincinnati, OH, eight grandchildren: Julian Eugene Milton, Langston Edric Milton, Ivan James Nestingen, Claire Ellen Nestingen, Katelynn Marie Johnson, Tristan, Summer, and Noah Johnson, Addison and Ayden Kimbal, great-granddaughter Malahia Johnson, and three siblings: Phil (Rhonda) Reed of Washington, IA, Joe Reed of Carter Lake, IA, and Ann Reed of Washington.

Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her father Eugene Reed.
