Mary R. “Sandy” (Frank) Mougin, 81, of Riverside, passed away Saturday, September 13, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with ALS. A funeral will be held Friday, September 19, 2025, at 10:30 AM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. The service will be available via Livestream at the Beatty Peterseim Facebook and YouTube pages. Burial will follow at the South Sharon (Grout) Cemetery northeast of Kalona. The family will greet friends from 4 – 7 PM on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the ALS Association and St. Croix Hospice.
Sandy was born December 25, 1943, in Iowa City, the daughter of Ray and Ruth (Prybil) Frank. She graduated from City High School in 1962, where she was a member of the drill team. She graduated from AIB in Des Moines in 1963 with a business degree. On October 7, 1964, she was united in marriage to Charles “Chuck” Mougin at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Sandy worked at the First National Bank in Iowa City for three years, ACT for 15 years and H & R Block during tax season. She was a 4H leader for over 12 years, was the president of the Iowa City Booster Club, and the Hills Ballpark Concession group. Sandy enjoyed baking, including decorating cakes, bowling, camping at Sleepy Hollow in Oxford, crafting and Elvis. Attending her children and grandchildren’s events was very important to Sandy, and she rarely missed an opportunity to watch them participate.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Chuck of Riverside, two children: Diane (Scott) Feddern of Victor, Iowa, Gary (Nancy) Mougin of Walford, Iowa, five grandchildren: Trenton (Kelsie) Maschmann, Tyler (Amber) Mougin, Matthew (Kirsten) Maschmann, Nic Mougin (Jaden Stallman), Addison Mougin (Parker Gammill), great grandchild Reese, bonus grandchildren: Nicole and Courtney, four bonus great-grandchildren: Coby, Callaway, Brielle and Ayla, and two brothers: Bill Frank of Mesa, Arizona, Tom Carrington of Los Angeles, California, sister-in-law Mary Ann Walters and many amazing nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding Sandy in death were her parents, her son-in-law Scott Maschmann, her in-laws Raphael and Doliena Mougin, Ed and Jean Mougin, Vic and Leona Mougin, Frank and Darlene Kabela, Frank and Vivian Mougin, Whitey Walters, Harold and Juanita Hunter, and numerous Aunts and Uncles.
