Nick Yutzy

July 26, 1959 — October 28, 2017

Nicholas “Nick” Jay Yutzy, 58 of Kalona, Ia. Entered fully into the presence of our Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 28th, 2017 after a valiant battle with cancer.

Nick was born July 26th, 1959 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of the late Roman and Frances (Gerig) Yutzy.  Nick attended Iowa Mennonite High School in rural Kalona.  He transferred to Iowa City High School where he graduated class of 1977.  While in high school Nick worked alongside his father, owner and operator of Yutzy Hauling Service.  Nick later succeeded his father and renamed the company N & N Sanitation, Inc.

On May 4th, 1985 Nick was united in marriage to his high school sweet heart Nancy Kay Buck at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Iowa City.

Nick was a former member of The Iowa City Home Builders Association, Iowa City Rotary Club, Coralville Rotary Club, and the Wild Turkey Federation.  Nick also participated in many local charitable events over the years.  Nick enjoyed fishing, traveling, working in the shop, and owning a stock car and racing team. Nick loved all sports.  He was a die-hard fan of the Kansas City Royals baseball team and the Washington Redskins football team.  Nick most of all loved Nancy, their boys, and their grandchildren. Nick will be remembered for his strength, optimism and loyalty.  His “I haven’t given up just yet” attitude prevailed though out numerous health treatments over his lifetime.  Nick is loved dearly and will be missed immensely.

Survivors include his wife Nancy Kay of Kalona, two sons: Verton (Natalie) Yutzy of Kalona, Juston (Aftan Vander Zwaag) of Kalona, four Grandchildren: Eden, Gunner, Garrett, and Emberlin, four sisters: Mary (John) Dachtler of Tonasket, Washington.  Dorothy Yutzy of Anchorage, Alaska.  Linda Stodulski of Glen Alan, Virginia.  Charity (Daryl) Schlabaugh of Tiffin, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Nick in death were his parents, Roman and Frances Yutzy, two Sisters: Bert DeHerrera and Lois Bava and an infant granddaughter Ella Grace Yutzy.

Nicks family extends their heartfelt appreciation for the many acts of kindness shown to them during Nicks final weeks and at this time of their loss.  In Lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Upper Deer Creek Mennonite Church in Wellman, Iowa and Compassus Hospice.

Nicks family will receive friends at Upper Deer Creek Mennonite Church on Thursday, November 2nd, 2017 from 3-7PM.   Funeral Services will be held at Upper Deer Creek Mennonite Church on Friday, November 3rd. 2017 at 10:30am with Pastors Delmer Bontrager and Ray Yutzy officiating.  Burial will follow in the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery.
