Norma Rose Southwick, 92, of Kalona died Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the Pleasantview Home in Kalona. A visitation will be held Thursday, March 30 from 9 – 10:30 am at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. Graveside services will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona at 11:00 am. A memorial fund has been established for the Pleasantview Home.
Norma Rose (Kos) Southwick was born March 31, 1924 at her parents' home in rural Riveside. Norma was the daughter of Carl and Mamie (Knotek) Kos. She grew up in rural Riveside and graduated from Riverside High School and the University of Iowa in 1946. Norma married Robert E. Southwick on December 4, 1947 in Kalona. Norma and Bob worked and operated the Kalona roller rink and bowling alley after their marriage. Later they owned and operated The Gambles Hardware store in Kalona for 26 years, until their retirement in 1984. Norma enjoyed gardening, puzzles, playing euchre, visiting the casinos and the Hawkeyes.
Norma is survived by two sons, Larry and wife Mary Jo of Davenport, and Loren and wife Karla of Sunrise Beach, Missouri. Also surviving are two grandchildren Lee Southwick of Iowa City and Brett Southwick of Marion.
Her husband, parents and two brothers, Kenneth and Dale, preceded Norma in death.
