Owen Miller

Funeral services for Owen E. Miller, 84, of Kalona will be held Friday, June 9, 2017 at 3:30 PM at the Kalona Mennonite Church in Kalona.  Burial will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Thursday, June 8 from 4 – 8 PM at the Kalona Mennonite Church in Kalona.  A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona First Responders and Kalona Mennonite Church.  Owen E. Miller died Monday, June 5, 2017 at the University of Iowa Hospital.

Owen Eugene Miller was born September 16, 1932 in Kalona, Iowa, the son of Paris L. and Lydia (Briskey) Miller.  He attended Prairie Dale Rural School.  On September 9, 1956 he was united in marriage to Ruby Bender at the Fairview Mennonite Church in rural Kalona.  He worked as a carpenter most of his life and was a member of the Kalona Mennonite Church and the Coachmen Camping Club (Pete's Fleas).  He enjoyed camping, family vacations, mushroom hunting, being with his kids, grandkids and great granddaughters and never missed their sporting events.  Owen was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan.

Survivors include his wife Ruby, three children: Deb (Dean) Kaefring, Larry Miller, Sandy (Doug) Owens, grandchildren: Bethany (Neil) Bombei, Angie Kaefring, Nick (Holly) Miller, Nicole (Kevin) Wittrock, Nate (Andrea) Miller, Damon (Katie Buswell) Owens, Dana (Shaun) Needham, Landon Owens, eight great granddaughters: Grace, Paige, Emma, Ella, Aria, Violet, Cheyenne and Sydney, two step great grandsons: Noah and Sam, and one great grandchild on the way.  Also surviving are five siblings: Anna Peiffer, Alma Hershberger, Iowa, Charles "Chip" (Karen) Miller, Sally (John L.) Hershberger, and Marilyn (Derald) Bender.

Preceding Owen in death were his parents, three brothers: Henry, Robert and Milton Miller, one sister in law Ella Miller, two brothers in law: John D. Hershberger and Charles Peiffer and one nephew Delwyn Hershberger.
