A celebration of life for Paul B. Swank, 86, of Washington, formerly of Kalona, will be held Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at 10:30 AM at the Kalona United Methodist Church with Pastor Gerry Kahler officiating.  The body will be cremated following the service.  Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 11 from 3 – 7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona.  In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the Kalona United Methodist Church, Mid Prairie FFA, Handicap Housing of Washington, and Hospice of Washington County.  Paul B. Swank died Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington.

Paul Bliss Swank was born December 17, 1928 in Oakville, Iowa, the son of Edwin L. And Edith C. (Bliss) Swank.  He graduated from Huron Consolidated High School in Oakville in 1946 and received his Bachelors in Science Degree from Iowa State University in 1951 and his Masters of Science in 1970. Paul served in the United States Navy following World War II and continued to serve in the Navy Reserves for 40 years, retiring with the permanent rank of Captain in 1986.  On January 30, 1962 he was united in marriage to Lois Kimmel in Lincoln, NE.  Paul was an Agricultural Education Instructor at Alburnett, Winfield - Mt. Union and Mid Prairie High School, retiring after teaching for 30 years.  He was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church, the Retired Officer's Association, Iowa Vo Ag Teachers Association, Washington Co. Association of Retarded Citizens, Planning and Zoning Committee for the city of Kalona, Washington County Task Force: Area Ten Heritage on Aging Agency, Director of Washingon County Handicapped Housing Inc, Youth and 4H Committee Washington County, Director of Washington County Mental Health Clinic and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife Lois of Washington, three daughters: Deborah Lynn Swank of Ankeny, IA, Theresa Ann (Marty) Fleskes of Highlands Ranch, CO, Kathryn Marie Swank of Washington, two grandchidlren: Austin and Samantha Fleskes and one sister, Mary Lund of Lincoln, NE.

Preceding Paul in death were his parents, one brother, Walter Swank and brother in law, Robert Lund.
