Richard Schneider

February 9, 1935 — April 8, 2014



Richard Schneider, 79, of Wayland, formerly of Brighton, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.  His body has been cremated and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.  A memorial fund has been established for the Brighton Fire Department.

Richard Schneider was born February 9, 1935 in Milwaukee, WI, the son of John and Eleanore W. (Goll) Schneider.  He graduated from Glenbeulah High School in Wisconsin and attended the Univeristy of Wisconsin at Milwaukee.  In 1954 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served his country until 1960.  He was united in marriage to Maria Pilar Elua in Burgos, Spain on March 9, 1957.  Richard worked as a foundryman and was a member of the Richmond AM-Vets Post #107, and the Moose Lodge.  He enjoyed listening to Lawrence Welk, playing the piano, gardening and working on cars.

Survivors include his wife Maria of Wayland, IA, seven children; Richard Schneider of Winterset, IA, Eleanore (Jeffrey) Smits of Seguin, TX, Marisa Schneider of Houston, TX, Michael Schneider (Fred Baldwin) of Brighton, IA, Andy (Amy) Schneider of Brighton, IA, Erika (Mark) James of Tampa, FL, Jason Schneider of Washington, IA, seven grandchildren; Jaci Smits, Erika Smits, Andrew Schneider, Rachel James, Gregory Schneider, Ryanne James, Jack James, three sisters; Bev, Sandra and Sally and two brothers; William and Franklin.

Preceding Richard in death were his parents and 11 brothers and sisters; Robert, Ruth, Audrey, John, Donald, Earl, Theodore, Phyllis, Ernst, Walter and Sarah.
