Mass of Christian Burial for Richard Welte, 94, of Davenport, formerly of Richmond, will be held Friday, July 25, 2014 at 10:30 AM at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond with Father David Brownfield officiating.  Burial will follow at the Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona from 4:30 – 6:30 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM.  A memorial fund has been established for Holy Family Church, Davenport, Holy Trinity Church, Richmond, and Richmond AMVET Post #107.  Richard Welte died Monday, July 21, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Facility in Davenport, Iowa.
Richard Welte was born March 23, 1920 in Richmond, Iowa the son of Robert S. and Clara (Saur) Welte.  He graduated from Holy Trinity Grade School and Kalona High School.  He served his country in the Army Air Force from 1942 to 1946.  Rich was commissioned a 1st lieutenant and was an airplane navigator in the Pacific Theatre of war and flew thoughout that area from Australia to Japan.  After the war he was employed by Solar Aircraft in Des Moines, Iowa for several years and then at Reynolds Engineering in Rock Island, IL until he retired.  He enjoyed hunting and fishing and time spent on the rivers and lakes and many trips to Canada to fish for Walleyes.  Rich was a member of the Holy Family Church, Davenport, Richmond AMVET Post #107 and Duck's Unlimited.
Survivors include one sister, Shirly Perkins of Denver, CO, one brother, Eugene (Ramona) Welte of Davenport, IA, and several nephews and nieces.
Preceding Rich in death were his parents, one brother Robert G.and wife Rita Welte, one sister, Marjorie and husband Bill Knoll and one brother in law, Gus Perkins.
