Robert Yoder

A memorial service for Robert E. Yoder, 90, of Wellman, will be held Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona, with Pastor Gerry Kahler officiating.  Visitation will be held from 1-3 pm on Saturday.  The body has been cremated and a graveside service will take place at a later date.  A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona United Methodist Church.  Robert Yoder died Thursday, March 9, 2017 at Parkview Manor in Wellman.

Robert Edward Yoder was born April 16, 1926 in rural Wellman, Iowa, the son of Willis G. And Elizabeth Ann (Bender) Yoder.  He joined the Civilian Public Service in 1944 and served for 18 months in Ft. Collins and Nederland, Colorado.  On June 16, 1949 he was united in marriage to Beulah Dickel at the East Union Mennonite Church.  Beulah died on December 31, 1974.  On September 15, 1990 he married Velma Christner at the Kalona United Methodist Church.  Velma died March 30, 2008.  Robert farmed most of his life, and after retiring from farming he worked at Wellman Lumber for 20 years.  He was a member of the Kalona United Methodist Church and enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, planting trees and woodworking, having built wagons and cedar chests for his grandchildren.  Robert also enjoyed walking and on his 70th birthday he walked from Wellman to Iowa City.

Survivors include four children and spouses: Lonnie (Teresa) Yoder of Harrisonburg, VA., Denny (Becky) Yoder of Wellman, IA., Michael (Donna) Yoder of Cedar Rapids, IA., Minnie (Tom) Richardson of Oskaloosa, IA., two step children: Shirley (Richard) Harvey of Wellman, IA., Robert (Karen) Christner of Kalona, IA., seven grandchildren: Bridgette (Brad) Rew, Donovan (Sara) Yoder, Shannon (Brandon) Roth, Nicole Yoder, Aaron Wilder, Grace and Brooke Richardson, five great grandchildren: Emma and Blake Yoder, Madeleine Wehmeyer and Tegan and Declan Roth.  Also surviving is a sister-in-law Judy Yoder of Iowa City.

Preceding Robert in death were his parents, his wife Beulah and his wife Velma and three brothers: Donald W., Marion "Tex" and Keith Yoder.
