Ruby Miller, 2601 560th Street SW rural Kalona was born December 16, 1928 in Thomas, Oklahoma to Eli S. and Delila (Miller) Bontrager. She passed away peacefully at her home on February 16, 2023, from congestive heart failure. Ruby accepted Christ in her youth and was a faithful member of the Amish Church. She lived in Oklahoma in her younger years until her marriage, then she moved to Iowa.

On October 9, 1952, she married Alvin L. Miller. They moved onto the farm shortly after where she spent her next 63 years. Alvin proceeded her in death February 21, 2006.

Ruby was an amazing and hardworking homemaker, gardener, cook, seamstress and quilter. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking and entertaining people. And most of all a Godly wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. Her positive outlook in life and her happy, friendly personality won her many friends in her life, young and old. She loved doing things for others and in the last years she baked many cookies to give away, which she enjoyed. She also sent many cards and letters to known and unknown friends.

Ruby is now gone from her earthy home but many good memories remain.

To this union were born 8 children: Mabel Miller of Kalona, IA, Thomas (Anita) Miller of Cedar Rapids, IA, Herbert (Alma) Miller of Walhonding, OH, Leslie (Marie) Miller of Kalona, IA, Norma Miller of Williamsburg, IA, Leon (Lorene) Miller of Milford, IN, Delila (Fritz) Frey of Middlebury, IN, and Linda (Ernest) Miller of Chouteau, OK.

Survivors are the 8 children, 40 grandchildren, and 70 great-grandchildren. One sister Annamae Ropp of Kalona, IA, 3 brothers: Eldon (MaryEllen) Bontrager of Arlington, KS, Vernon (Alta) Bontrager of Kalona, IA, and Perry Bontrager of Kalona, IA. Two sisters in law Salina Bontrager of Kalona, IA and Esther Bontrager of Breman, IN.

Proceeding her in death was her husband Alvin, parents, daughter in law Edna Miller in July 2011, one granddaughter Nadine Miller, one great-granddaughter D’Nayja Morris, four brothers Henry, Joe, Floyd, and a stillborn brother, one sister Sarah Bontrager, brother in law Lloyd Ropp, two sisters in law Lydia Mae Bontrager and Pauline Bontrager.

Ruby’s family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation for the many acts of kindness extended to them during this time of their loss. May God bless each of you.
