Funeral services for Samuel R. Swantz, 65 of Kalona will be held Friday, January 31, 2014 at 9:30 AM at the John Harvey Swantz residence, 1111 Larch Avenue, Kalona, Iowa. Bishop Vernon Yoder will officiate. Burial will follow at the South Gingerich Cemetery in rural Kalona. Visitation will be held all day Thursday, January 30, at the John Harvey Swantz residence. A general memorial fund has been established. Samuel Swantz died Tuesday, January 28th at his home in Kalona following a lingering illness.
Samuel Ray Swantz was born May 31, 1948 in rural Washington County, the son of Lester and Lydia (Bender) Swantz. He was baptized in the Old Order Amish Church in his youth. Survivors include three brothers; John Harvey (Fannie Mae) Swantz of Kalona, Henry (Mary) Swantz of Kalona, Amos (Mattie) Swantz of Sugar Creek, OH, seven nieces and nephews; Lillian Gingerich of Irvington, KY, Loretta Miller of Kalona, John David Swantz of Wellman, James Swantz of Kalona, Luke Swantz of Belle Center, OH, Alvin Swantz and Ruth Swantz of Sugar Creek, OH.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, one sister; Ruth Swantz and two infant brothers.
