Stephen (Steve) Thomas Rohret, age 72, of Riverside, IA passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025.
Steve was born in Iowa City, IA, son of Mary (Haman) and Robert Rohret. He graduated from Regina High School. He was united in marriage to Sharon Yeggy and together the two were blessed with two sons, Timothy and Thomas.
Steve used his varied talents over the years to work as a deputy sheriff, auto mechanic, maintenance mechanic and water treatment operator. Steve enjoyed the simple things in life. Outside he could be found tinkering on various projects, hunting, or cutting wood. Inside, you'd find him sampling fresh tomatoes from the garden, enjoying his favorite foods and drinks, watching a good TV show, or perusing advertisements for a good deal.
Steve was a good father and passed down some of his mechanical knowledge to his sons. He especially enjoyed attending tractor pulls with them. Steve was a proud grandfather to his three grandkids: Lauren, Audrey, and Landon. Steve loved to listen to "The Little Engine that Could" with them. Often reciting, "I think I can, I think I can" to them while playing. He liked family gatherings, always keeping a watchful eye on how the meal was being prepared.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Robert Rohret; brother, Mark Rohret, father-in-law Merritt "Buzz" Yeggy; and nephew, Zac Yeggy.
Steve is survived by his wife, Sharon; sons, Timothy (Melanie) Rohret and Thomas (Alana) Rohret; grandchildren, Lauren, Audrey, and Landon; brothers, Chuck (Chris) Rohret, Pat Rohret, and Bob (Alice) Rohret; in laws, Evelyn Yeggy, Larry (Cheryl) Yeggy, Janet (Brian) Lewis, Carolyn (Jerry) Schnoebelen, Dennis (Kelly) Yeggy; along with many nieces and nephews.
Per Steve's wishes, a celebration of his life will be held privately. Memorial donations may be directed to the Zac Yeggy Foundation.
