Steve (Stan) Allen Jaspering, 69, of Washington, Iowa, passed away on August 31, 2026, in Park Ridge, Illinois.

A celebration of Steve's life will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, October 10, 2026, at Beatty and Peterseim Funeral Home in Washington. In keeping with Steve's wishes, this day is not meant to be a sad goodbye, but a true celebration of the life he lived. He wanted the people he loved to come together, share stories, laugh, remember the good times, and enjoy one another's company. Steve spent his life finding reasons to laugh, even during the hardest moments, and he would want his celebration to be filled with that same spirit-music, memories, smiles, and plenty of laughter.

Steve was born on November 12, 1956, in Washington, Iowa, to F.H. Jaspering Jr. and Anna Jaspering. He was the oldest of four children and grew up alongside his siblings, Bonnie Potter, Connie Sedlacek, and Karl Jaspering. As the oldest brother, Steve held a special place in his family and was also a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Steve married Mary Kleineberg in 1978, and from their marriage came their two children, Jami Jo Kondora and Justin Lee Jaspering. Steve and Mary loved one another deeply, even if they eventually discovered they simply could not live together. Although they divorced in 2000, their love for their family always kept them connected, and they continued to come together through the years for holidays, birthdays, celebrations, and other special moments with their children and grandchildren.

Being a grandfather brought Steve a great deal of joy. He loved his grandchildren, Devon Sue Nissen, Isiah Alejandro Michaca, Brydon Lee Holder, and Christian Gage Holder. Through Jami's marriage to Michael Brian Kondora, Steve also welcomed and loved his bonus grandchildren, Devon James Minkler and Ethan Lee Kondora.

Steve worked hard throughout his life and retired from DeLongs Construction, where he spent many years working as a heavy equipment operator. Outside of work, he found happiness in family, music, laughter, fishing, and the companionship of his cherished dog, Velcro.

Velcro was more than just a pet to Steve; he was his sidekick and constant companion. The two shared their own little routines, including breakfast trips to McDonald's followed by cruises around town looking for squirrels at Sunset Park. Those simple outings brought Steve a lot of joy and became part of the everyday life he loved.

Music was also a big part of Steve's life. He loved playing his guitars, listening to his favorite songs, and going to concerts with his children. Those concerts became more than just nights out; they became treasured memories and a special way for Steve to connect with the people he loved.

Steve was someone who genuinely enjoyed people. He was social, easy to talk to, and always ready to laugh. He had a sense of humor that stayed with him even during some of the hardest times in his life. When his health became difficult, Steve still found reasons to smile, joke, and make the people around him laugh. He had a remarkable ability to find humor in even the toughest situations, and he faced life with a positive attitude that those closest to him will never forget.

He enjoyed fishing, spending time with family, playing his guitars, and simply being around the people he cared about. Steve did not need much to enjoy a good day. A favorite song, a good laugh, time with his children and grandchildren, breakfast at McDonald's, or a drive with Velcro by his side was often enough.

Steve will be remembered for his laughter, his love of music, his resilience, and the way he continued to find joy even when life was difficult. He leaves behind countless memories, stories, songs, laughs, and moments that his family will carry with them.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, F.H. Jaspering Jr.; his daughter-in-law, Barbara Kay Christ; and his cherished fur baby, Mocha.

He is survived by his mother, Anna Jaspering; his children, Jami Jo Kondora and Justin Lee Jaspering; his grandchildren, Devon Sue Nissen, Isiah Alejandro Michaca, Brydon Lee Holder, and Christian Lee Holder; his bonus grandchildren, Devon James Minkler and Ethan Lee Kondora; his siblings, Bonnie Potter, Connie Sedalek, and Karl Jaspering; Mary Kleineberg, the mother of his children; many nieces and nephews; and his cherished dog, Velcro.
