Toni S. (Schooley) Sandell, 65, of Washington, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at her home in Washington, following a courageous battle with cancer. A visitation will be held Sunday, October 11, 2026, from 1 – 3 PM at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. Following the visitation there will be a celebration gathering at Unc and Nephs in Washington. Private burial of the urn will be held at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton at a later date. A general memorial fund has been established. The Beatty Peterseim Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Toni Sue Sandell was born June 27, 1961, in Washington, Iowa, the daughter of Sidney and Connie (Smith) Schooley. She worked as a waitress at the Wagon Wheel and Unc and Nephs in Washington. Toni was a bit of a neat freak, always keeping her house spotless and her clothes pressed. She enjoyed fishing, going to garage sales for bargains, flower gardening and spending time with her family and friends. Toni loved the trip she and Perry took to Alaska several years ago, and she always looked forward to their annual trip to Kansas City to watch the Royals play the Yankees. She was also an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.

Survivors include her significant other Perry Sojka of Washington; sister Tricia Jones of Brighton; daughter Japonica (Rob) Cruise of Covington, LA; three grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew: Hannah Hobbs, Desirae Hesseltine, and Keyan Schooley; great niece Leah; and great-nephews: Wyatt and Deacon.

Preceding Toni in death were her parents, her brother Kevin Schooley and sister Cyndy Hesseltine.
