Viola M. Kasper, age 88 of Riverside, IA died Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013 at Mercy Hospital, Iowa City.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, Dec 2, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Riverside. Burial will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Riverside.
Visitation is Sunday, Dec. 1 from 3-7 pm at the Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona. Prayers will be at
7:00 p m.
Viola M. Kasper was born April 11, 1925 in Riverside, the daughter of Clarence and Alma Simon Thomann. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1944. She was a life long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. On February 26, 1949 she was united in marriage to Louis Kasper at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
The couple lived in the Riverside area all their married life where she enjoyed being a farm wife with her flowers and gardens. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were a real joy to her. She was the secretary of the H-J Club and attended Lending Hands and enjoyed having coffee with friends.
Viola is survived by five children and spouses: Karen Grout of Marengo, Barbara (Mike) Carlson of Columbus Junction, Louise (Ron) Jones of Bellevue, Patricia (Bob) Hartsock of Columbus Junction, Scott (Donna) Kasper of Riverside, 14 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren with another expected soon. Also surviving are two sisters, Rita Stumpf of Riverside and Annette (Jim) Shalla of Kalona and one sister-in-law, Betty Thomann of Riverside.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Louis (1983) an infant sister, Rose, her brother Joe Thomann and two sons-in-law, Jerry O'Neil and Russell Grout.
A memorial has been established for Riverside Quick Responders and Lending Hands of Washington.
Beatty and Peterseim Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
