Wilbur Lowe

Wilbur Alan “Al” Lowe, 71, of Riverside, died Tuesday, December 22, 2020, at his home following a battle with cancer. A public visitation will be held Sunday, December 27, 2020, from 1 – 4 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona.  Social distancing guidelines will be in place and masks are required.  A memorial fund has been established for Iowa City Hospice and Riverside First Responders.

Wilbur Alan Lowe was born August 1, 1949, in Centerville, Iowa, the son of Arthur Wilbur and Jorene (Houdesheldt) Lowe.  He graduated from Ottumwa High School and meat cutting school in Ohio.  Al worked as a meat manager at Eagle Foods in Iowa City for 35 years, at Cub Foods for four years and as produce manager at JW’s in Kalona for three years.  On May 13, 2000, he was united in marriage to Diane Waldschmidt at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Riverside.  He was a member of the Richmond Masonic Lodge #96 and was a Washington County Reserve Deputy for 16 years. Al enjoyed watching Cardinals, Cubs and Braves baseball, watching Westerns, reading, history and traveling, visiting 49 states with Diane. He was a great cook and loved being with his family, telling stories and jokes to entertain them.

Survivors include his wife Diane of Riverside, one son Karl Lowe of Iowa City, four stepchildren: Scott Grecian, Tim (Jenny) Grecian, Sue (Shawn) Maloney and Gina (Aaron) Kos and 11 grandchildren.

Preceding Al in death were his parents Arthur and Jorene Lowe, one brother David Lowe and his in-laws: Elmer and Shirley Waldschmidt.
