A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Wilma “Willie” Walker, 96, of Kalona, will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at 10:30 AM at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Richmond with Father Bill Roush officiating. Burial will follow at the Sharon Hill Cemetery in Kalona. The family will greet friends Tuesday, October 1, 2019, from 5 – 7 PM at the Peterseim Funeral Home in Kalona. A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona Volunteer Fire Department and Richmond Am Vet Post #107.
Wilma "Willie" Walker died Sunday, September 22, 2019, at Mercy West Lakes Hospital in West Des Moines. Wilma was born on July 26, 1923, to William and Anna Wilke Schmidt in Burlington, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Floyd Walker on June 2, 1943. Wilma worked for many years at the Kalona Savings Bank and Farmer Savings Bank. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid golfer and was a long-time member of the Kalona Golf Club. She enjoyed putting puzzles together and playing 31 with her grandchildren.
Survivors include two children: daughter Cherie and Gary Baldwin, son Steve and Carol Walker, grandchildren Laura and Tracy Deemer, Melissa and Ed Kirbo, Cathleen and Chad Adams, Jodi and Josh Viau, Danielle Ellis; Great-grandchildren Tyler Deemer, T.J. and Malaya Deemer, Matt Baldwin, Dylan Deemer, Owen, Gage, and Trey Robert Adams, Wyatt and Lawson Viau, Rachel, Keegan, Meaghan, and Patrick Baldwin; and Great-Great granddaughter Skye Deemer; and a sister Mary Ann Rymut.
She was preceded in death by her husband Floyd Walker, Brother Oliver Schmidt, sister JoAnn Sherrill, and grandson Lt. Col. Robert Baldwin.
