At the Beatty and Peterseim Funeral and Monument Service, nothing is more important to us than helping people during a very difficult time. We pride ourselves on maintaining the sanctity and dignity of life while serving families in a comfortable, hospitable atmosphere. Our facility is our home, and while a family is with us, we want them to feel it’s their home as well.
In 1917, Rollie and Anna Barbara (Grabill) Peterseim established the Peterseim Funeral Home to serve the people of Kalona. The funeral home was purchased from Rollie by son and daughter-in-law, in 1963. The business is still in the family, with Short’s daughter, Meg working in the funeral home and his widow Jan (Holden) Peterseim living and working in the home at 201 B Avenue. Meg received her license in 1994 and became the manager of the funeral home, making her the third generation of Peterseim’s to care for the community and its families.
Robert and Rachel Beatty started in Funeral Service in Salem, Iowa, after buying Waterman Funeral Home in 1960. They also owned and operated the ambulance business and Furniture Store. In 1967 they moved to Mount Pleasant, Iowa and opened Beatty Funeral Home, in 1970 they added a third branch in buying the Zehr Funeral Home in Wayland, Iowa. In 1976 they purchased the Crane/Ewart/Young Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant and moved to that location. In 1997 their son Mark joined the Funeral Home and added another location in Washington, Iowa.
